Boiler attendant interview questions and answers pdf

1. What is boiler mountings & its purposes? Ans.   Boiler mountings are installed for safety of a boiler. Examples of boiler mountings are water level indicator, steam stop valve, man hole, pressure gauge, safety valve,  feed check valve  etc. 2. Purpose of  w ater level indicator in boiler? Ans.  Water level indicator constantly indicates the level of water inside the boiler. The water level in a boiler must not fall below a certain safe-level. If the level of water inside the boiler happens to fall below safe-level, crack and leak can occur. 3. What is the purpose of guard glass in a glass-tube water level indicator? Ans.  The guard glass is tough. It doesn’t give shards on breaking. Guard glass covers the gauge glass. If due to sudden rush of water and steam the gauge glass breaks, the guard glass protects the attendant from getting hurt. 4.  What is the purpose of pressure gauge? Ans. Pressure gauge measures the pressure exerted inside the boil...

What is FTIR & Why FTIR analysis is applied in Water Treatment Plant

Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy examine the surface changes of anion exchangers. FTIR spectroscopy enables identification of the foulants. FTIR analyses enabled identification of the foulant as humic substances, which accumulated on the beads surface and remained after regeneration. The image analyses helped to observe the changes of beads shapes from smooth and circular to uneven and oval. How to detect fouling of anion resin? - Power plant interview questions

Organic fouling of an anion exchange resin results from the adsorption of the organics on its surface which block the diffusion of mobile ions inside the resin beads. As a result a decrease in a total capacity is observed. Generally the performance of anion exchangers is determined based on the breakthrough curves and studies of the adsorption kinetics. One of the main problems concerning anion exchange resins is their susceptibility to fouling. The most important foulants of anion exchange resins include colloidal additives, iron and manganese compounds, organic impurities, free chlorine and dissolved oxygen. Each foulants affects the efficiency of the anion exchanger mainly by decreasing its capacity. FTIR spectroscopy is quick and cost-effective method to identify the foulants, to assess degradation and deformation of the ion exchanger and for the determination of functional groups responsible for sorption of specific ions Read More BOE Interview Questions   What are ...

Why & Where the Silica Fouling Occurs in DM plant - Power Plant Interview Discussion

Silica fouling can occur in strong base anion resins if the regenerant temperature is too low, or in weak base resins if the effluent caustic from the SBA unit used to regenerate the weak base unit contains too much silica. At low pH levels, polymerization of the silica can occur in a weak base resin. It can also be a problem in an exhausted strong base anion resin. Silica fouling is removed by a prolonged soak in warm (120 o F) caustic soda.
