Boiler Feed Pump (B.F.P) Starting Procedure In Thermal Power Plant

1.Take clearance from control room. Check the valves position and any leakage then go for clearance from control room. Manually check motors earthing and coupling guards position.

2. With all PPEs, operator shall check whether the all gauges and instruments duly calibrated, and manually check that there is no leakage from any gauges.

3. With the help of hook spanner the operator should open the suction line and discharge line vent root valve also its isolating valve partially open.( Open valve 9 & 17 fully and 10 & 18 partially.)

4. Suction filter drain root and isolating valve, suction line drain root and isolating valve, balancing line safety valve vent lever should be closed with the help of their proper tools, with safety. During work one person inspect and show torch light for proper light in work place.( Keep valves 3, 4, 7, 8 & 11 close.)

5. Motorise discharge valve and manual discharge valve will be close from c/r and manually , there should be no leakage during work.( Keep valve 19 & 20 close)

6. Balancing line root and isolating valve and Recirculation line root and isolating valve should be open by the operator with the help of the proper tools or hook spanner slowly.(Open valve 12, 13, 14 & 15)

7. Suction filter root and isolating valve open slowly with the help of hook spanner. (Open valve 2 & 6)

8.    When all the air get released then close the suction line vent root and isolating valve, do not over tight.( Close valve 9 & 10 when all the air gets released)

9.   Now discharge line root and isolating valve also closed with the help of hook spanner when all the air get released. All closing of valve should be with the help of hook spanner. (Close valve 17 & 18 when all the air gets released)

10. Balancing leakoff safety valve vent lever open till the pump temperature becomes almost equal to the feed water temperature using hand wearing hand gloves.( Open valve 11 and keep it open till pump temperature becomes almost equal to the feed water temperature)

11. Now close the balancing leakoff safety valve vent lever as the temp is nearly equal to feed water temp.( Close valve 11)

12. 12. BCW inlet and outlet valve open with the help of hook spanner, valve should not over operator. (Open valve 21 & 22)

13. If power is not available restore power of main pump-1 and its AOP this will be done from control room.

14. 14. Start AOP and check oil pressure. Oil pressure after filter should be more than 0.9 Kg/Cm2   . This starting will be from c/r and manually check the oil pressure by the operator.

15. Suction differential pressure across suction filter 5 should be <0.35 Kg/Cm2.it should be make sure by the operator by self-viewing at local and inform c/r.

16. Suction pressure should be > 1.2 Kg/Cm2. manually see this or in c/r if any abnormal immediately inform c/r by femco.

17. Start Boiler Feed Pump from DCS and check locally for any abnormal sound or vibration. The operator should check any abnormal sound and vibration in the pump itself.
18. Check all the parameters and ensure that these are within normal range as mentioned in the log sheet. The operator and foreman both ensure the parameters are properly checked and within the normal range.
19. Now open manual discharge valve with the help of hook spanner , if the all parameters seen normal. then motorize discharge valve also open. from DCS c/r.
20. After pump has come to full load, again check all the parameters and ensure that these are within normal range manually and inform c/r by the operator.

Boiler Operation Engineer Interview Question - 14 Q.How do you identify the leakage of economizer tube ? What is its effect ? Ans.  An economizer tube leakage can be detected by sound or increased make up water requirements. The leak should be investigated at the earliest possible time and the unit to be shut down in a normal manner. Water leaks in the economizer can cause considerable erosion damage to adjacent tubes. Water carried over from an economizer tube leak may lead to cold end corrosion also. Read More BOE Interview Questions   What are the factors which affect the Natural circulation ?
